Looks can be deceiving...

In the world of business, so many mentors and others have told me that the way that one dresses and looks is pertinent to how successful one is. I started to fall into this way of thinking and converted myself to look more "business like." I do agree to a point that the way the someone portrays themselves and dresses is very important. I mean come on, who would buy anything from someone that smells bad, has shabby clothing, and cusses like a sailor? I have also been told that when it comes to being a business man that you cannot blend in. Make the customer remember you. This could be done with customer service, but can also be done with appearances as well. I have decided to take both of these to a bit of an extreme some may say. Me; I think I just like to think outside of the proverbial box when it comes to business.

I don't dress in three piece suites (anymore), I don't have the business man's haircut, and I don't treat the customer like a number. For those of you that know me and know what I look like you can fully understand this. I have long hair, tattoos and piercings. Does this make just another punk thug? In mine and my customers opinion, absolutely not! I don't portray your everyday computer geek or nerd. I also don't come off as an arrogant computer specialist as some in my industry do all too often. This is an industry where people feel that they have to be superior to others when it comes to what they know and how well they know it. When did being in business become being all about yourself? Being in business is all about serving the customer and providing them with something of value that they will tell everyone they know about.

So I don't look all business like. Who cares. I do my job and I do it well. My customers needs come first and they see this. So to all who decided to judge a book by its cover, think again. You never know what that person with all the tattoos and long hair is capable of. They may turn out to be one of the nicest most dependable people you have ever met. So to this I say; looks can indeed be deceiving. Enjoy your day, be happy, and be prosperous.
